Event Details
Six of our college students begin an internship with UrbanLife. Starting June 13, six of our college students will embark on a 9-week adventure (read: internship) with UrbanLife. Among other things, they will be learning what it means to follow God and be leaders in the neighborhood. They will have days filled with service projects, leadership training, and putting on camp for students in the neighborhood. This begins with leading high school students through their internship, called the New Heights Project.
High school students will spend three weeks in July doing leadership training, working with children in the neighborhood, doing service projects, and tutoring refugees, followed by one week working at a Vacation Bible School for elementary aged students in the neighborhood.
This provides students in our neighborhood with some real experience in the job world. Both the college and high school internships are stipend positions and students are expected to show up on time, participate, follow instructions and cooperate with others on the team. The college internship and the New Heights Project are springboards for students in our neighborhood. They build confidence, work skills, teach valuable lessons for the professional world, and what it means to follow Jesus.
